In April 2022, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, launched the King Salman Project to expand Quba Mosque as the largest expansion in the history of the mosque, aiming to develop the surrounding area, in addition to raising the total area of Quba Mosque to 50,000 square meters, by 10 times. Its current area has a capacity of 66,000 worshipers.
It will also raise the efficiency of this Islamic historical landmark with the aim of enriching the visitor’s devotional and cultural experience through historical sites. The project includes developing and reviving historical sites to include 57 sites covering many wells, farms and orchards and linking three prophetic paths.
King Salman’s project is one of the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, within the programs of serving the guests of God and quality of life. Prince Mohammed bin Salman stressed the interest of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud – may God protect him – in expanding the Quba Mosque, which is the first mosque built in Islam, pointing out The project will work to accommodate the largest number of worshipers during seasons and peak times, in addition to demonstrate the religious importance, document the historical characteristics of the Quba Center, and preserve its urban and architectural style, within the framework of great concern to protect the historical monuments located near the mosque.
