The Ministry of Commerce in Saudi Arabia has increased its inspection of markets and sales outlets in the regions of Makkah and Madinah during the holy month of Ramadan. The inspections are being conducted in cooperation and coordination with relevant authorities, aimed at ensuring that commercial establishments are following consumer protection regulations. The ministry’s seasonal plan includes monitoring to ensure that basic foodstuffs and essential commodities are available to meet consumer needs, and to take action against any violations of demand and supply equations.
During the Umrah season, the supervisory teams are intensifying their inspections along the roads leading to Makkah and Madinah to follow up on service centers, fuel stations, car tire and oil shops, markets for precious metals and stones, and others, to ensure that commercial establishments comply with the ministry’s regulations. In addition, the supervisory teams verify the validity of promotion offers and discounts, check if price tags are in place on products, and ensure the quality of goods and products and their compliance with specifications and standards.
Before the start of the holy month of Ramadan, the ministry carried out proactive tours to follow up on the availability of basic Ramadan commodities in the markets and sales outlets, to ensure their validity, and to monitor any fake, misleading or unlicensed offers, and to apply legal action against such violations.
The ministry urges consumers to report any complaints or observations by calling the ministry’s Communications Center at the toll-free number (1900) or through its Balagh Tijari app. The objective of the ministry is to protect the rights of consumers by ensuring that commercial establishments comply with regulations, and to take action against any violations to ensure that the market remains fair and transparent for all
